NEW DELHI: New Zealand pacer Adam Milne has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup after suffering a torn left hamstring and will be replaced in the squad by fellow fast bowler Kyle Jamieson.
Milne sustained the injury while bowling in the SA20 competition over the weekend, with scans later confirming the extent of the damage, New Zealand Cricket said on Friday.
Jamieson, who is currently part of the white-ball squad touring India, has been elevated to the World Cup squad after initially being named as a traveling reserve for the February–March tournament in India and Sri Lanka.
“We’re all gutted for Adam,” head coach Rob Walter said. “He’d worked so hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best during his eight games for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. It’s unfortunate timing for Adam and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Milne’s injury comes as a major setback for New Zealand, given his experience and role in the pace attack. In his absence, Jamieson will shoulder added responsibility during the tournament.
Known for his disciplined line and length, along with his ability to swing the ball early, Jamieson could prove to be a key component of New Zealand’s T20 World Cup campaign as they look to cope with Milne’s absence.
