Nat Sciver-Brunt's Historic Century Powers Mumbai Indians to Victory

In a thrilling match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Vadodara, Nat Sciver-Brunt made history by scoring the first-ever century in the Women's Premier League (WPL). Her remarkable innings of 100 runs off just 57 balls, combined with a 131-run partnership with Hayley Matthews, propelled Mumbai Indians (MI) to a total of 199/4.


This victory was crucial for MI as they aimed to keep their playoff hopes alive, while RCB sought to secure a direct entry into the finals.


Cautious Start for Mumbai Indians

After RCB opted to field first, MI's openers, Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana, managed to hit a boundary each in the initial overs. However, Sajana was dismissed for just seven runs, leaving MI at 16/1 in 2.2 overs.


Brunt and Matthews Build Momentum

Nat Sciver-Brunt joined Hayley Matthews, and together they began to stabilize the innings. They each hit boundaries against RCB's bowlers, but MI concluded the powerplay with a modest score of 38/1, with Hayley on 17 and Nat on 11.


Nat then accelerated the scoring, hitting boundaries against Nadine de Klerk and Shreyanka Patil, bringing MI's score to 50 in just 7.1 overs.


Partnership Gains Speed

As the innings progressed, Hayley took charge, hitting two boundaries against Nadine and another four against Radha Yadav. By the halfway mark, MI had reached 76/1, with Hayley at 34 and Nat at 31.


In the 11th over, Hayley continued her aggressive play, hitting a six and a four off Nadine. Brunt also showcased her skills, scoring a flurry of boundaries, including a hat-trick of fours in Shreyanka's over, and reached her fifty in just 32 balls.


Key Breakthrough for RCB

In the 14th over, Hayley completed her half-century in 34 balls, but Lauren Bell struck back, dismissing her for 56 runs. This ended the significant 131-run partnership, leaving MI at 147/2.


Brunt Achieves Milestone in Final Overs

As the innings drew to a close, Nat Sciver-Brunt continued to score, hitting a four in Sayali's 18th over. MI reached 184 runs, but RCB managed to take a wicket in the penultimate over.


Nat Sciver-Brunt made history by scoring the first century in WPL history, finishing with 100 runs, including 16 fours and a six. MI concluded their innings at 199/4, with Nat and Amelia Kerr remaining not out.
