New Delhi: The notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), “University Grants Commission (Regulations for the Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions), 2026,” has an important objective, but clarity and balance in these regulations are absolutely essential. ABVP believes that the UGC and all educational institutions must uphold the spirit inherent in democracy, where every citizen has equal rights and India remains free from discrimination and inequality.

ABVP has always worked towards creating a positive and equitable environment on educational campuses and has advocated for the promotion of democratic values. To realize the vision of a ‘Developed India’ in the coming years, we all need to make collective efforts. The ambiguities and misconceptions arising among society, students, and parents regarding some provisions and terminology of this UGC equity regulation require the UGC to take immediate notice and action to prevent any kind of divisive situation.

It is noteworthy that this matter is currently under consideration in court; therefore, ABVP believes that the UGC should clarify its position in this regard and file an affidavit in court promptly.

There should be social equality for all sections of society on educational campuses, and there is no place for any kind of discrimination on campuses.

There are misconceptions among students, parents, and stakeholders regarding this regulation, on which the UGC should immediately provide clarification by engaging in dialogue with all stakeholders to dispel these misconceptions. Collective efforts from all sections of society are necessary to strengthen democratic values and ensure a discrimination-free environment for all students.”
