After the Flood has had viewers on the edge of their seats with its gripping second series on ITV.
The inaugural series centred around an unidentified man found dead in an underground car park following a catastrophic flood, with PC Jo Marshall, portrayed by Sophie Rundle, tasked with uncovering the shocking truth behind his demise.
In the second instalment of After the Flood, we see Jo, now a detective, embroiled in a perplexing new murder case. As Waterside teeters on the brink of moorland fires and potential subsequent flooding, a body is unearthed under strange circumstances.
Jo's pursuit of the killer puts her at odds with the town's powerful and influential figures, ultimately leading her into a deeply personal investigation.
To expose the corruption that has plagued the local police force - and her own family - for years, she'll need to conduct her investigation covertly.
The second series premiered on 18 January, with episodes airing every Sunday and Monday. However, for those who can't wait, the entire series is available to stream on ITV X.
Following a binge-watch of the second series, fans took to Twitter, now X, to heap praise on the show and inquire about a potential third series.
One viewer enthused: "#aftertheflood series 2 was brilliant. Surely there's gonna be a series 3! !" whilst another declared: "Just finished watching the 2nd series of #AfterTheFlood on @ITVX. It was the best thing I've seen in ages! Compelling characters and great acting, supported by a fantastic, credible plot and script. Also, Sophie Rundle is absolutely gorgeous. Well done to all involved."
A further fan penned: "I'm going to need a 3rd series of #AfterTheFlood effective immediately! Sophie Rundle, Jill Halfpenny, Lorraine Ashbourne, Matt Stokoe, Nicholas Gleaves... Maxine Alderton - One of the best script writers in the game! Take a bow! ! ! Brilliant series."
Another viewer remarked: "Binged #AfterTheFlood season 1 and 2 @ITVX loved it. Wonders if there will be a 3rd #ItvX" with someone else adding: "What an ending #AfterTheFlood series 2 hopefully will be a 3rd series @ITV @WeAreSTV."
A third series appears increasingly likely after we spoke exclusively with actors Matt Stokoe and Nicholas Gleaves, who portray Detective Pat Holman and Sergeant Phil Mackie respectively, with both expressing enthusiasm for another chapter.
When questioned about returning for series three, Matt, 37, and Nicholas, 57, were unequivocal in their desire to continue.
Nicholas explained: "Yeah. I think there's much, I think what he's done is he's created a depth that it could go deeper. And there are unanswered questions at the end of season two. So hopefully we will get to come back."
After the Flood airs weekly on Sundays and Mondays on ITV. All episodes are available on ITVX.
