Beyond its frequent inclusion in international travel rankings, Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island has been identified as one of the world’s most affordable destinations in terms of round-trip economy airfare. According to Skyscanner’s Cheapest Destinations 2026 report, Phu Quoc is the only Vietnamese location to appear on the list of destinations with the lowest average airfares for travel in 2026.

The report is based on flight search and booking data collected throughout 2025 from Skyscanner’s global user base. Phu Quoc’s inclusion alongside destinations such as Phuket, Manila, and Denpasar indicates that the island is increasingly competitive in terms of air accessibility on a regional and global scale.

Skyscanner’s Trending Destinations 2026 report also points to growing international interest in Phu Quoc. The island ranked second globally, recording a 184% year-on-year increase in flight searches. Skyscanner cited Phu Quoc’s natural landscapes, clear waters, and beaches such as Kem Beach and Sao Beach as key factors contributing to its appeal as a destination for leisure travel.

This growth reflects a combination of policy and infrastructure factors. Phu Quoc currently offers international visitors a 30-day visa-free stay and continues to expand its air connectivity. The planned launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, which is expected to focus on international routes and direct connections to major source markets, may further support the island’s long-term tourism development.

Tourism figures from 2025 provide additional context for this trend. Phu Quoc recorded approximately 8.3 million visitors during the year, exceeding its annual target by more than 18%. International arrivals reached nearly 1.9 million, almost double the previous year’s total. In early 2026, Phu Quoc International Airport continued to report growth in international flights, with traffic estimated to be about 40% higher than the same period last year.

Beyond improved accessibility, Phu Quoc’s tourism strategy has increasingly emphasized the development of a more diverse visitor experience. In addition to its beaches and natural environment, the island has expanded its entertainment and leisure infrastructure to support activities throughout the day and evening.

Key attractions include the three-wire cable car to Hon Thom Island, which offers views of the An Thoi archipelago, and entertainment complexes such as Sun World Hon Thom. Evening activities are concentrated in areas such as Sunset Town, home to the Kiss Bridge and large-scale multimedia shows, including “Kiss of the Sea” and “Symphony of the Sea”. Fireworks displays have also become a regular feature of the island’s nighttime offerings.

Phu Quoc’s repeated appearance in Skyscanner rankings suggests that its growth is supported by both competitive airfares and an expanding range of visitor experiences. As affordability continues to influence travel decisions and destinations seek to retain visitors through diversified offerings, Phu Quoc is positioning itself as a notable beach destination in Asia in 2026.
