Who was Shambhavi Pathak? Full story of the pilot who flew Ajit Pawar’s flight

On Wednesday morning, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar left for Baramati from Mumbai, where he had to address a public meeting to the Zilla Parishad elections. When his plane reached Baramati Airport between 8:45 and 9:15 in the morning, there was dense fog. Due to low visibility, the plane lost balance during landing and fell into a nearby field instead of the runway. The collision was so strong that the plane was completely burnt to ashes.

Shambhavi Pathak was in the cockpit

This ill-fated flight was being flown by experienced Captain Sumit and First Officer Shambhavi Pathak. Both pilots died in the accident. Shambhavi Pathak was a promising and hardworking pilot, who made her mark in the world of aviation at an early age. His untimely demise sent a wave of mourning across the entire aviation sector.

Journey from Mumbai to New Zealand

Shambhavi Pathak’s early education was in Mumbai. He obtained a BSc degree in Aeronautics and Aviation Science from Mumbai University. With the dream of becoming a pilot, she went to New Zealand, where she took professional flying training from the International Commercial Pilot Academy. After completing his training in the year 2018-19, he got a commercial pilot license from the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority.

Career with VSR Ventures

Since 2022, Shambhavi Pathak was working as a pilot with Delhi-based private company VSR Ventures. The registration number of the Learjet 45 aircraft which caused this accident was VT-SSK. Captain Sumit, Shambhavi Pathak and flight attendant Pinky Mali were present in the aircraft as crew members. Apart from these, Ajit Pawar and Videep Jadhav were also on board. Everyone died on the spot in the accident.

DGCA investigation and questions arising

According to preliminary information, the main reason for the accident is believed to be bad weather and dense fog. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of technical fault in the last moments of landing. Considering the seriousness of the matter, DGCA has constituted a high level investigation committee. It is also worth noting that another aircraft of VSR Ventures has met with an accident at Mumbai Airport in September 2023, due to which questions are being raised on the security arrangements of the company.
