Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Monday claimed that while alliances remain a political reality in Tamil Nadu, the time has come to move beyond seat-sharing and begin discussions on power-sharing.

Reacting to a recent pre-poll survey by Indian Political Democratic Strategies (IPDS), Tagore stated that the data does not accurately reflect the Congress party’s true strength.

"In Tamil Nadu, alliances are a political reality. Each party has its own base of voter support. I believe this data does not fully reflect not only the Congress party’s numbers but also those of other parties. However, no one can win in Tamil Nadu without an alliance. At the same time, the moment has come to discuss not just power, but also the sharing of power, hasn’t it?," he said in a post on X.

"Time for share of power, not only share of seats," he added.

Tagore’s remarks came a day after Girish Chodankar, the Congress party’s in-charge for Tamil Nadu, asserted that the DMK is a trusted, long-time ally and ruled out any possibility of an alliance with the actor-politician Vijay-led TVK for the assembly elections.

Chodankar expressed confidence that the DMK brass would soon take a firm decision on the election- matters, such as seat-sharing.

"The Congress party has a long-standing relationship with the DMK; it is a trusted ally," he said on Saturday.

There were reports that the grand old party had demanded 38 Assembly seats and three Cabinet berths if the DMK-led alliance wins the polls.
