Emmerdale viewers have expressed their astonishment after discovering that actress Zoe Henry portrayed a major Coronation Street antagonist in years gone by.
Zoe, 52, has portrayed veterinarian Rhona Goskirk on Emmerdale intermittently since 2001. Nevertheless, Zoe also took on a part in a rival ITV soap during her absence from Emmerdale.
The performer played Casey Carswell in Coronation Street during 2007, a character who pursued Claire and Ashley Peacock relentlessly on the cobbles, turning their existence into a nightmare.
Taking to social media platforms, one soap enthusiast posted an image of Zoe as Casey during filming alongside Ashley actor Steven Arnold. They wrote: "Zoe Henry, Rhona, when she was in Corrie, Casey Carswell with boyfriend Ashley Peacock played by Steven Arnold."
One account responded: "Wow I really don't remember this x", whilst another posted: "Was she in Corrie?", a different fan commented: "Dont remember that!" whilst another viewer remarked: "I loved Ashley he was great."
Meanwhile, another fan wrote: "April's mum was crazy Casey in #Corrie back in the day! ! (Sorry, I'm not all that up on #Emmerdale)" whilst a different viewer observed: "Watching rhona from #Emmerdale in #ClassicCorrie as Casey playing a total opposite of each character... good acting from @ZoeHenry03 to play characters that are different. #Corrie."
In the Coronation Street plot, Claire, portrayed by Julia Haworth, encountered Casey through her voluntary telephone counselling work. After becoming acquainted, Claire entrusted Casey with her newborn son, Freddie, whilst she ventured out.
However, upon her return to discover Freddie and Casey absent, Claire became alarmed and contacted the police, believing Casey had abducted him. It quickly emerged that Casey had simply taken Freddie for a drive, leaving her distressed that Claire had involved the authorities.
Feeling hurt, Casey departed just as police officers arrived on the scene. Nevertheless, mere weeks afterwards, Casey was spotted following Claire and was suspected of starting the blaze at their residence.
When her image featured in the Weatherfield Gazette and television news, she presented herself to police voluntarily but was subsequently freed owing to insufficient evidence.
Following a confrontation, Casey and Claire rekindled their friendship, with Casey soon developing feelings for Claire's spouse Ashley after Claire mentioned her marriage might be in trouble. Before long, Casey pursued Ashley and the pair began an illicit relationship.
In a disturbing turn of events, Casey began behaving like Ashley's wife and Joshua's mother whilst Claire was absent on Casey's suggestion. Audrey Roberts grew worried after witnessing Casey's conduct and challenged Ashley, who confessed to the extramarital affair.
Following a clash between Audrey and Casey, the latter suggested that she, Ashley and Joshua would shortly become a genuine family unit and neither Audrey nor Claire could prevent it. Upon Claire's return, and discovering Casey had made herself comfortable within their family unit, Claire confronted her and demanded she leave.
Meanwhile, Ashley fibbed about their liaison and denied they had ever been intimate.
Casey subsequently took pleasure in stalking Ashley and matters took a menacing twist when she abducted his son with Claire, holding young Freddie and herself hostage on the balcony.
As Ashley attempted to pacify her, Casey confessed to starting the blaze and declared Claire was obstructing their genuine love. Recognising just how perilous Casey truly was, Ashley tried to persuade her that her feelings towards him were fabricated.
Matters deteriorated further when Claire appeared, with Casey compelling Ashley to reveal the truth about their affair to Claire before forcing Ashley to propose to her.
Eventually, following a fraught standoff, police officers stormed in to apprehend Casey. It was subsequently disclosed that Casey was mentally unfit to stand trial and that she would be sectioned under the Mental Health Act indefinitely as she was a serious danger to herself, the Peacocks and other people.
Besides Casey, Zoe also portrayed the character of Log Thwaite in Coronation Street in 1998.
