RTE Admission 2026-27: The path to free education in private schools for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections in Uttar Pradesh is now clear. Under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE), the admission process for 25 percent of seats in private unaided schools for the academic session 2026-27 is set to begin on February 2nd. Under this scheme, children will get the opportunity to study in private schools without paying any fees. The entire admission process will be completed in three phases.

Applications in Three Phases
Applications for the first phase under RTE will be accepted from February 2nd to February 16th. The second phase of applications will be accepted from February 21st to March 7th. The third and final phase of applications will be open from March 12th to March 25th. Under this scheme, admissions will be given to pre-primary classes (Nursery, LKG, UKG) and Class 1.

After the application process is complete, schools will be allotted to children through a lottery system. The first phase lottery will be held on February 18th, the second phase on March 9th, and the third phase on March 29th. After the lottery, the Basic Education Officer will issue orders to the concerned private schools for the enrollment of the selected children.

Enrollment to be completed by April 11th
The Education Department has instructed that the enrollment of all children selected in the lottery must be completed by April 11th. At least 25 percent of the total seats in the initial classes of all recognized private unaided schools in every district will be mandatorily reserved for admissions under RTE.

Applications only through the Online Portal
Applications under RTE will be accepted only through online mode. For this, parents will have to apply on the official portal – www.rte25.upsdc.gov.in. Applications will be accepted for approximately 6 lakh seats in about 68,000 private schools in the state. Last year, 3.37 lakh applications were received under RTE, out of which 2.54 lakh applications were accepted and 1.85 lakh seats were allotted. Of these, approximately 1.41 lakh children were admitted to private schools.

Age Limit for Admission
The age limit for admission under RTE has also been fixed:
– Nursery: 3 to 4 years
– LKG: 4 to 5 years
– UKG: 5 to 6 years
– Class 1: 6 to 7 years
The child's age will be calculated as of April 1, 2026.
