OpenAI, which has become a major name in the world of artificial intelligence, is now preparing to enter the social media arena. According to reports, the company is working on a social network where there will be no place for bot accounts. The AI company, led by Sam Altman, wants to make its platform completely "human-only" to differentiate itself from existing platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok.

According to a Forbes report, this social network is currently in its early stages and is being developed by a small team of fewer than 10 people. The biggest attraction of this platform is that only real humans will be allowed to create accounts. OpenAI wants to leverage the popularity of its viral apps like ChatGPT and Sora through this project.

OpenAI's platform will tackle the bot problem
The report states that OpenAI is considering incorporating biometric identification into this social network. Under this system, users may be asked for "proof of personhood," i.e., proof of being a human. This could involve using Apple's Face ID or World Orb.

World Orb is a special type of iris scanner that creates a unique identity for each person through their iris. This system is run by a company called Tools for Humanity, which was founded by Sam Altman himself, and he also serves as its chairman.

Bots have long been a source of problems
In fact, bot accounts have long been a major problem on social media platforms. These accounts are often used to inflate cryptocurrency prices, spread hateful content, or mislead public opinion. This problem became particularly acute on Twitter after Elon Musk bought the company, renamed it X, and laid off about 80 percent of the staff. This also weakened the trust and safety team. Although Musk launched a campaign against bots and approximately 1.7 million bot accounts were removed in 2025, the problem has not been completely eliminated.

Sam Altman has also expressed his displeasure
Sam Altman himself has been an active user on X since 2008 and has expressed his dissatisfaction with bots on several occasions. In September 2025, he wrote that Twitter and Reddit, filled with AI, no longer feel as authentic as they used to. Recently, he mentioned the "Dead Internet Theory," stating that a large number of AI-driven accounts are now visible on social media. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also said in December 2025 that social media feeds are gradually becoming filled with "synthetic content."

Different from Facebook and LinkedIn
Platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn use phone numbers, email addresses, and behavioral signals for identity verification, but they do not adopt biometric identification. OpenAI's approach may be different. However, privacy experts have raised concerns about technologies like World Orb, as iris scans cannot be changed and could pose a risk if they fall into the wrong hands.

When will it launch?
Currently, it is unclear how OpenAI's social network will integrate with its existing products, but according to reports, users may be able to create content such as videos and images with the help of AI. The launch timeline is not yet finalized, and several changes may be made before its public release.
