Who is AR Ameen?

A.R. Ameen is the son of AR Rahman and Saira Banu. He was born on 6 January 2003 in India. He is known for 2.0 (2018), Mard Maratha (2017), Tere Ishk Mein (2025), and O Kadhal Kanmani (2015). AR Ameen started his singing career in the film O Kadhal Kanmani, for which his father A. R. Rahman composed the music, and has since sung in several Indian languages. He also performs in live concerts across the globe with his father. He released his first single titled "Sago" when he was in Class 11.

"My dad has been very supportive of me during the entire process. I was quite nervous during the production of this song because dad had composed this track and wanted me to produce the song along with him. It made me pretty nervous. He kept telling me to be myself throughout. That was the simplest yet important tip he gave me. He said this could be my identity, so all I needed to do was be myself, and get my ideas out without worrying about how it is going to sound," he told Chennai Times in an interview.

During that interview, he revealed he bonds with AR Rahman over gadgets, movies and both of them are into photography in their own ways. "I love Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Anirudh, Kanye West. I love Michael Jackson and he is a huge influence," he had said.

"Actually, I got my affinity to fashion from my dad. Honestly, it’s always felt like my dad and mum have been around whenever I needed them. Since most of dad’s travels involved us going along with him, it never felt like he was away," he had said.

AR Ameen defends father amid backlash

AR Ameen has defended AR Rahman after the Oscar-winning music composer found himself at the centre of a controversy after his remarks about alleged communal bias in the Hindi film industry sparked intense debate online. Reflecting on his own career and the inevitable comparisons with his father, AR Ameen struck a grounded note.

“My dad’s legacy has reached a place no one can imagine. I think I am starting my own small journey. I have a long way to go, with a lot of work and commitment ahead. I want to put my heart and soul into it. Right now, I’m just focused on that,” he said.

AR Ameen publicly came out in support of his father. Taking to Instagram Stories, he referred to Rahman as a “legend for life” and said his legacy is “written forever in the books.”
