Weather- Tamil Nadu is set to witness shifting weather conditions over the next few days, combining cool early hours, pockets of fog, and limited rainfall, according to the latest bulletin from the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The advisory points to a brief spell of winter-like chill during the mornings, particularly across parts of western and north-western Tamil Nadu. While the overall weather pattern remains stable, localised changes are expected to influence daily routines in several districts.
Fog likely in interior and hilly districts
Weather officials have cautioned that moderate fog may develop during the pre-dawn and early morning hours in select interior and elevated regions. Districts such as the Nilgiris, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Vellore, and Ranipet are among those where misty conditions are most likely.
The fog is expected to be more prominent in areas with lower night temperatures and higher moisture levels, especially along hill slopes and interior plains. Visibility may drop temporarily during early hours, which could affect road traffic in these regions.
Advisory issued for morning travel
Authorities have urged motorists and daily commuters to remain alert while travelling in fog-prone areas. Reduced visibility on highways, ghat roads, and rural stretches may increase the risk of accidents, particularly during the early morning commute.
Transport officials have advised drivers to use fog lights where available, maintain safe speeds, and avoid sudden lane changes. Pedestrians are also encouraged to exercise caution near busy roads during low-visibility periods.
Light rain expected in southern and delta regions
While the western belt experiences fog, parts of southern Tamil Nadu and the delta districts may see a different pattern altogether. The meteorological department has forecast light and scattered rainfall at isolated locations on Thursday.
Districts in the southern interior and agricultural delta zones could receive brief showers. Karaikal and nearby coastal pockets may also witness intermittent rainfall. Officials clarified that the showers are expected to be mild and short-lived, with no indication of heavy or widespread precipitation.
Limited showers may aid agriculture
Although the rainfall is not expected to significantly alter water levels, it may offer short-term relief from dry conditions in farming regions. Light showers could help maintain soil moisture and support standing crops, particularly in delta areas that depend on timely weather changes.
Agricultural officers are advising farmers to monitor local forecasts closely and plan irrigation schedules accordingly, as rainfall intensity and coverage may vary from place to place.
Dry weather to continue elsewhere
For the rest of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry, dry conditions are likely to dominate. Skies are expected to remain clear to partly cloudy, with no major rainfall activity forecast across northern and interior districts.
Weather officials noted that stable atmospheric conditions are limiting cloud formation over much of the region, keeping precipitation chances low outside the southern belt.
Gradual rise in daytime temperatures
Temperatures across interior Tamil Nadu are expected to edge upward in the coming days. Maximum temperatures may remain slightly above normal after Thursday, particularly in inland districts.
This warming trend could lead to noticeable contrasts between cool, foggy mornings and warmer afternoons. Such fluctuations are typical during this time of year and may continue for several days.
Chennai to see mild and pleasant conditions
Chennai is forecast to experience partly cloudy skies with no significant rainfall. Daytime temperatures are likely to remain moderate, while evenings and nights may feel relatively comfortable.
Residents can expect stable weather conditions, making it suitable for regular outdoor activities without major disruptions.
Overall, Tamil Nadu is entering a period of mixed weather, marked by foggy mornings in the west, light showers in the south, and dry, warmer conditions elsewhere. Authorities recommend staying informed through official forecasts and taking necessary precautions during early travel hours.
