Harare. With the help of a brilliant century by opener Aaron George (115) and blazing half-centuries by Vaibhav Suryavanshi (68) and captain Ayush Mhatre (62), India Under-19 defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets on Wednesday and entered the title match of the Under-19 World Cup.
Afghanistan made a challenging score of 310 runs for four wickets in the second semi-final on the basis of brilliant century innings by Faisal Shinozada (110) and Uzairullah Niazai (101 not out), but Indian batsmen proved this score also small. India will face England in the final, who had defeated Australia in the first semi-final yesterday.
Player of the Match George hit 15 fours and two sixes in 115 runs in 104 balls. Suryavanshi and George gave a great start to India by making an opening partnership of 90 runs in the powerplay. Suryavanshi hit nine fours and four sixes in his innings of 68 runs in 33 balls. Captain Mhatre also washed his hands in Run Ganga, hitting five fours and four sixes in 62 runs in 59 balls. India achieved an easy victory by scoring 311 runs for three wickets in 41.1 overs.
In this way India achieved the record chase in the Under-19 World Cup. Earlier today, Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first. The pair of Usman Saadat and Khalid Ahmadzai, who came to bat, added 53 runs for the first wicket. Deepesh Devendran gave India its first success by dismissing Khalid Ahmedzai in the 13th over.
Ahmadzai scored 31 runs in 39 balls, hitting four fours and a six. Faisal Shinozada, who came to bat at number three, handled the innings with Usman Saadat and made a partnership of 64 runs for the second wicket. In the 25th over, Kanishk Chauhan dismissed Usman Saadat and sent him to the pavilion. Usman Saadat scored 39 runs in 70 balls hitting three fours.
There was a partnership of 148 runs for the third wicket between Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai. In the 46th over, Deepesh Devendran ended this partnership by dismissing Faisal Shinozada. Faisal Shinozada played an inning of 110 runs in 93 balls hitting 15 fours. In the 49th over, Kanishk Chauhan took his second wicket by dismissing Azizullah Miyakhil (12).
Afghanistan scored a challenging score of 310 runs for four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Uzairullah Niazai played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs in 86 balls, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. Abdul Aziz remained unbeaten after scoring seven runs. For India, Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chauhan took two wickets each.
