Team India has made a strong entry in the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup. In the second semi-final match played at Harare Sports Club Ground on Wednesday (4 February), Ayush Mhatre Brigade defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets. Afghanistan had set a huge target of 311 runs, which the Indian team achieved very easily in just 41.1 overs. This was the most successful run chase of Team India in the history of this tournament.
Aaron George, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Mhatre played important roles in India’s victory. Opener George played a memorable inning of 115 runs in 104 balls. During this, he hit 15 fours and 2 sixes. He was out when the Indian team was just 11 runs away from the target. After his departure, Vihaan Malhotra (38 runs not out) and Vedant Trivedi (5 runs not out), who were the heroes of the victory against Pakistan, easily took the team to the threshold of victory. It was costly for Afghanistan to give lives to George and Vaibhav at the beginning of the innings.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave a stormy start
Young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave a great start to Team India, which was chasing a big target in the knock out match. Taking advantage of the lease of life he got on 22 runs, Vaibhav set the tone by hitting fifty in 24 balls. He along with George made a partnership of 90 runs in 9.3 overs. Vaibhav was out after scoring 68 runs in 33 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes. After this, captain Mhatre and George took charge and added 114 runs for the second wicket.
India had crossed the 200 mark in just 25 overs. His victory seemed easy, then Mhatre returned to the pavilion after playing a quick inning of 62 runs in 59 balls. It seemed that the Afghan team would counterattack but George held one end and he ensured India’s victory by making a partnership of 96 runs for the third wicket with Vihaan. Now Team India will face England in the final on Friday. England had booked the ticket for the title match by defeating Australia.
Two batsmen had scored centuries for the Afghan team.
Earlier, Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai played century innings for Afghanistan, due to which the team made a big total. Faisal Shinozada scored 110 runs in 93 balls. Uzairullah Niazai played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs in 86 balls, which included 12 fours and 2 sixes. Uzairullah completed his century on the fourth ball of the last over. However, his hard work went in vain.
