ICC T20I Rankings: Before the biggest stage of T20 cricket, the battle between the batsmen has become more interesting. The newly released ICC T20I batting rankings have clearly indicated that India’s batting line-up is becoming the most dominant force in world cricket at the moment. Despite a slight decline in ratings, Abhishek Sharma is firmly entrenched in the number-1 position, while many Indian names are in discussion in the top 10.
The aggressive left-handed opening batsman’s rating has dropped from 929 to 917, but the gap between him and the second-placed batsman is still quite large. This is the reason why despite low ratings, there does not appear to be any immediate threat to his reign. His current form, strike rate in the powerplay and consistency in big matches has established him as a T20 specialist.
At the second position is England’s explosive opener Phil Salt, whose rating has reached 834. They are consistently providing aggressive starts, but the distance from the top spot is still visible. England’s Jos Buttler is in third place, which makes it clear that the English batting is also getting into rhythm before the T20 World Cup.
India’s young star Tilak Verma has lost one place and has slipped to fourth position. His absence in the recent series is being considered a major reason for this. The ranking system gives importance to participation in matches and recent performance, so absence from the field has a direct impact on position.
The biggest positive news for India in the middle order is the emergence of captain Suryakumar Yadav. He has climbed one more place to number six and his rating has reached 728. After falling out of the top 10 some time ago, he has made a strong comeback. The aggressive innings played against New Zealand have again brought him into the elite club. Considering the way he puts pressure on the bowlers with 360-degree shots, it does not seem difficult for him to reach the top 5.
Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka has joined the batsmen who have consistently performed well by reaching fifth position. This also reflects the dominance of Asian teams in the rankings.
The most dramatic jump has been made by India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan. Kishan, who returned to the team after a long period, has again brought himself into the limelight by jumping more than 30 places. Now he is at 32nd position and his rating has reached 584. His century in the recent match is a major reason for this surge. This comeback not only strengthens the confidence of the selectors but also shows the depth of the Indian squad.
On the other hand, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has suffered a slight setback and has slipped down a few places. This shows how important consistency is in the T20 format — even one or two quiet innings can make an impact on the rankings.
Overall, these rankings ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clearly indicate that India’s batting unit looks strong on all three fronts – experience, youthful enthusiasm and form. If this trend continues, then both the Indian top order and middle order can prove to be a big challenge for the opposing teams.
