Iran-US nuclear talks scheduled in Muscat: The date and time of nuclear talks between Iran and America have been decided. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, while giving information on social media platform “I am grateful to our Omani brothers who have made all the necessary arrangements for this dialogue,” Araghchi said in his post.
This announcement was made on Thursday. For the past several days, deep differences were emerging between Iran and America regarding the place, format and agenda of the talks, due to which there was strong speculation about the cancellation of the talks. The talks were initially proposed in Istanbul, but Iran sought to shift it to Oman and limit the talks to only the nuclear program and US sanctions.
What was America’s demand?
The US wanted Iran’s missile program, regional proxy networks and other security issues to be included in the talks. The Trump administration had previously rejected a proposal to hold talks in Oman, but Washington agreed after pressure from the leaders of at least nine Middle Eastern countries and high-level diplomatic efforts.
According to a US official, the talks will now take place in Muscat, although differences between the two countries still remain deep. Iran has made it clear that it will only negotiate on its nuclear program and lifting sanctions, while the US has set the condition of “meaningful” and comprehensive discussions.
Trump’s warning to Khamenei
US President Donald Trump has warned Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying he should be “very concerned”. It is noteworthy that Oman has been playing the role of mediator between Iran and America for a long time. Similar talks were held in Muscat last year also.
The meeting is taking place after the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025 and the subsequent US attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which seriously affected Iran’s nuclear program. There are doubts about the success of the talks given the conflicting demands of both sides, but there is still hope for a diplomatic solution with Oman hosting it.
