After failing to get relief from the Delhi High Court, actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail. The court clearly stated that being associated with the film industry does not place one above the law.
On Thursday, actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail in Delhi. He took this step after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him any relief in the cheque bounce cases against him. The court rejected his request to extend the deadline for his surrender.

The case was filed by M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. The company alleges that Rajpal Yadav and his wife issued several cheques during a financial transaction, which later bounced. Due to non-payment within the stipulated time, the matter reached the court.
In 2018, a Delhi Magistrate Court convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife in this case and sentenced the actor to six months in jail. Later, in 2019, the Sessions Court also upheld this decision.

The case then reached the Delhi High Court. In June 2024, the High Court temporarily sustained the sentence and articulated hope that Rajpal Yadav would resolve the matter through a mutual agreement with the complainant. The court asked him to make “honest and serious efforts.”
However, according to the court, the actor failed to abide by the repeated assurances given, and the payment was not made on time.
On February 2, the Delhi High Court clearly ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender within the stipulated time. At the last moment, the actor again requested a week, stating that he had arranged Rs 50 lakh. But the court rejected this request.
The court said that granting more time after repeated violations of the rules would not be appropriate. Following this, on Thursday evening, around 4 pm, Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Tihar Jail.
This case highlights a harsh but necessary truth. Despite recognition and popularity in the industry, the law applies equally to everyone. The court’s stance sends a clear signal that repeated leniency based on “celebrity status” will no longer be granted.
Furthermore, this case demonstrates that taking legal matters lightly and repeatedly delaying compliance can ultimately prove costly, even for those with a prominent public profile.
