  • A giant market opened
  • A big cut in taxes
  • Farmer-fishermen safe

India-US interim trade agreement February 2026 : A golden chapter has been written today in India-US trade relations due to the friendly relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal (Piyush Goyal) officially announced that the two countries have finalized the ‘Interim Trade Agreement Framework’. This deal is not just about trade, but will be the key to global prosperity for Indian youth, farmers and micro-small enterprises (MSMEs).

The dream of 30 trillion dollars is now a reality!

According to Piyush Goyal, this agreement will give Indian exporters easy access to the gigantic $30 trillion US market. In particular, the US has reduced its import duty from 25% to 50% to only 18% for products in the sectors of textiles, leather goods, footwear, handicrafts and jewellery. This will make Indian products cheaper and competitive in the global market, resulting in creation of millions of new jobs in the country.

Interests of farmers and fishermen are paramount

The biggest concern about the agreement was the agriculture sector. However, Goyal clarified that India has not compromised with the interests of its farmers. ‘Sensitive’ agricultural products such as maize, wheat, rice, soya, milk, cheese and meat are completely protected by exclusion from the agreement. On the other hand, the opening of the American market to Indian fishermen is likely to increase the export of fishery products.

Trump’s ‘Executive Order’ and the Russian Oil Issue

In the wake of the deal, President Donald Trump has signed a landmark executive order. The 25% additional penalty (Penalty Tariff) imposed on India for buying oil from Russia has now been completely removed. This will once again give equal opportunities to Indian companies in the American market. In return, India will buy $500 billion worth of energy products, aircraft and technology from the US over the next 5 years.

Zero Tax and ‘Make in India’ momentum

Import duties on generic drugs (Pharmaceuticals), diamonds and aircraft spare parts are now to be ‘zeroed’. This will give a big boost to India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and exports from India will reach new heights under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The agreement is likely to be officially signed by March 2026, after which its actual implementation will begin.
