The police in Goa have said that they will detain persons found clicking photographs of foreign tourists without consent or forcing selfies with them, PTI reported on Friday.
This came after several incidents of domestic tourists photographing foreign women or insisting on selfies on beaches have been reported, an unidentified police officer told PTI.
The Calangute Police recently registered a case against two tourists from Odisha for allegedly harassing a Russian woman on a beach, the news agency reported.
The incident took place in the past week at Calangute beach. Akash Minaz (19) and Dhayan Tappo (34) allegedly clicked photographs with the woman without her consent and touched her inappropriately, PTI reported.
In November, a video was widely shared on social media showing a group of Indian tourists forcing two foreign women to pose for photographs and touching them inappropriately at Goa’s Arambol Beach.
Three persons from Karnataka were arrested after the police took cognisance of the video and registered a first information report.
The case was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty and wrongful restraint.
