Following its theatrical release in January, 2026, there was a legal issue in the digital streaming of Sivakarthikeyan 's film 'Parasakthi' online. However, the Madras High Court has now given a major sigh of relief to both the film crew and the fans of the film with this recent judgment.
The Madras High Court has denied any restraint on the OTT release of ‘Parasakthi’. The film is directed by Sudha Kongara and features Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. Assistant director Varun Rajendran filed a case saying the story was copied from his work titled Semmozhi. As per The Hindu, he claimed that the core idea and background of the film were taken from his story. As the film was set for OTT release, the petitioner asked the court to block it immediately, requesting for an interim stay on the release. But the court has denied it and thus did not pass any orders on stopping its OTT release. The case will now have its next hearing on February 9, 2026.
Producers defend 'Parasakthi' strongly
The producers, Don Pictures, filed a detailed reply in court. They ruled that the anti-Hindi agitation of 1965 in Tamil Nadu is a historical fact and stated that historic events or movements cannot be copied. They explained that such events belong to the public and society. The makers also said the film may be set in that time period. But the characters, dialogues, screenplay, and scenes are fully fictional and original. They said everything in the film has been creatively written. The producers strongly rejected the plagiarism claim as well. They also said the film does not copy any personal story or private work. According to them, 'Parasakthi' is an independent and original creation.
Next hearing date and current status of 'Parasakthi' OTT release
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has posted the case for the next hearing on February 9. The court did not pass any temporary order to stop the release. So, at this point in time, there doesn’t seem to be any legal obstruction for the OTT release of ‘Parasakthi.’ The decision has brought relief to the film team, producers, and fans. Many fans welcomed the court’s stand. However, the case is not over yet. The legal process will continue in court. Final clarity will come only after further hearings. Until then, the fans are hopeful. Meanwhile, 'Parasakthi' is streaming on OTT, and fans hope to see the film continue without any hindrance.
