Birmingham machete attack update as 14-year-old boy arrested

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following a machete attack in Birmingham, which left two teenagers with injuries.

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, were reportedly hurt and taken to hospital, and another 15yearold was assaulted on Stratford Road in Shirley on Saturday night, according to West Midlands Police. Officers arrived at the scene at around 9pm GMT and detained a suspect on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody while inquiries continue. Police believe the incident was a targeted attack, and additional patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure local residents.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen what happened, or who might have captured the incident on a dashcam, mobile phone, or any other recording device, to come forward.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We've arrested a teenage boy after three others were attacked in Shirley. We were called to the Stratford Road in Shirley at around 9pm yesterday. Two boys, aged 15 and 14, were taken to hospital with injuries which we believe were caused by a machete.

"Their injuries are not life-threatening but both remain in hospital for treatment. Another teenage boy, aged 15, was also assaulted after being punched but did not go to hospital.

"We've arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody as we continue with our enquiries. We believe the attack was targeted and we'll have extra officers in the area today to provide reassurance to the community.

"We're investigating and would urge people with witnesses or people with information such as dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/140175/26.
