The moment for which fans around the world were eagerly waiting for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match has come near. Today (15 February) there is to be a great match between India and Pakistan at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Indian team captained by Suryakumar Yadav has reached Colombo after defeating America and Namibia. Whereas Pakistan is already in Colombo. However, it has played both its matches at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in this city.
The command of Pakistan is in the hands of Salman Ali Aga. The Pak team had won the lost match against Netherlands in its first match. After this he has shown his form by defeating America. The Pakistani team, which was beaten 3-0 by India in the Asia Cup 2025, seems to be prepared this time, which has made the clash between the two teams interesting. Fans are considering it an equal contest and are expecting a blockbuster match. However, rain may spoil their hopes.
Chance of rain and thunder in Colombo
There is a possibility of rain disrupting the India-Pakistan match. A day before this big match, i.e. on Saturday, it rained in Colombo. For this reason the pitch and outfield of R Premadasa Stadium were covered. Its pictures have increased the concern of the fans. The Sri Lankan Meteorological Department has already issued a warning that a low-pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal, which may cause heavy rain this evening.
R Premadasa Stadium is located in the Khettarama area of Colombo. The weather will be humid here this morning. There is a possibility of light rain with thunder in the afternoon. There may be heavy rain before the scheduled match time of 7 pm. Due to this, the toss may be delayed or overs may be cut. According to some weather reports, the sky will be cloudy after 8 pm and there is a possibility of rain throughout the night, due to which there is a danger of the match getting washed out.
What will happen if the match is washed out?
ICC has not kept any reserve day for group stage matches. In such a situation, if a match of at least 5-5 overs is not possible today, then it will be declared cancelled. In this situation, both India and Pakistan will get 1 point each, due to which they will have 5 points each and will enter the Super-8.
Due to cancellation of India-Pakistan match, USA, Namibia and Netherlands will be in trouble. These three teams can reach only a maximum of 4 points, which will be less than India and Pakistan.
Pakistan’s troubles increased
There is no rain in Sri Lanka at this time but it is worth noting that Pakistan’s warm-up match was canceled due to bad weather. If today the match gets washed out due to rain then Pakistan will reach Super-8 but it will have to be cautious about the semi-finals. If the Pakistani team progresses from the Super-8, then it will enter the first semi-final, which will be played in Sri Lanka.
According to ICC rules, if the semi-final match cannot be held even on the reserve day due to rain, then the team with more points in the Super-8 will reach the final. In such a situation, Pakistan will have to focus on winning all its matches and not on the laws of nature in Super-8.
