A UK metal company has collapsed into administration. The firm, which comprises experts with a combined experience of more than 70 years, specialises in treating industrial metals to improve strength and durability. A notice posted in the London Gazette today confirmed that administrators were appointed to the business on Tuesday, February 24. MTE Heat Treatment is located in the heart of Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire.

It declares itself as "the ultimate destination for your geared and splined components", likening its services to spa treatments for industrial metals. Its 30,000-square-foot facility is located at the Spa Fields Industrial Estate, just off Manchester Road outside Huddersfield. The company promises metal treatments using "cutting-edge machinery" and "top-notch quality" overall. The latest available records show that the company employed 38 people in 2024, though more recent figures are not yet available.

Lee Van Lockwood and Gareth Harris, both of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP, have been appointed as joint administrators.

Administration, rather than liquidation, is a process whereby a qualified outside party (an administrator) takes control of the business to try to rescue it.

Businesses typically enter administration when they are in a difficult financial position and are unable to pay their debts. MTE Heat Treatment has not released a statement about today's notice in the London Gazette.

The company was founded in 2009 and was originally called Meltham Thermal Engineers Ltd. Its name changed to MTE Heat Treatment in early 2016 when it moved to its purpose-built facility.

Its client list includes companies in the automation, manufacturing and engineering sectors. Senior managers Ben Redfearn and Jason Beaumont acquired the business from long-standing owners Geoff Windas and Nigel Dyson in 2023.

Several companies in similar industries have recently entered administration, including five huge construction firms.
