Sundargarh: Police in Odisha’s Sundargarh have busted an inter-state ganja smuggling racket with the seizure of 146 kg of the contraband and arrested two men from Punjab.
The breakthrough occurred on Monday when a team led by IIC of Sundargarh Town Police intercepted a truck based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the illegal transportation of the contraband. The vehicle was en route from Boudh district in Odisha to Ludhiana in Punjab via Ranchi.
During the search, 146.3 kg of ganja, packed in eight sacks and hidden among bags of cashew shells to avoid detection, were recovered. The market price of the contraband is estimated to be around Rs 30 lakh. Three mobile phones and Rs 6,000 in cash were also seized along with the truck.
“This is part of an inter-state ganja smuggling racket. The two men are being questioned. Further investigation will reveal the wider drug network,” Sundargarh SP Amritpal Kaur told the media.
