Locals and tourists in Bahrain were urged to seek shelter on Monday night as an alert sounded again amid reports of new explosions in the Gulf State. The country's Ministry of Interior wrote on X: "The siren has been sounded. Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place."

In an update issued a few minutes later, the ministry said one person had been killed in the incident, and placed the blame on Iran. The X post read: "In a preliminary count, one person died and others were injured as a result of a blatant Iranian attack targeting a residential building in Manama."

Local reports also said a structure has been damaged in a reported strike on a building in the al-Seef area of Manama.

Brits currently in Bahrain should register their presence with the Foreign Office (FCDO), which advises against all but essential travel to the country.

The FCDO also has its own shelter-in-place warning, urging people to stay indoors and limit outside journeys to essential ones only.

Its advice states: "If staying in the Kingdom, follow the instructions of the local authorities.If you areadvised to takeshelter,stay indoors or find the nearest safe building or designated shelter.

"An interior stairwell or a room with as few external walls or windows as possible may provideadditionalprotection. You should not approach or touch any drone or missile fragments or unusual objects.

"We advise British nationals, wherever possible, to stay inside and limit movements to essential journeys only. Always let friends or family know where you are and when you are travelling and keep your mobile phone with you and charged."

This comes just one day after Bahrain said three people were injured and a water desalination plant was damaged in an Iranian drone attack.

The Ministry of Interior said the Sunday morning attack damaged the plant, which processes seawater to supply freshwater to residents.

It said: "The Iranian aggression randomly bombs civilian targets and causes material damage to a water desalination plant following an attack by a drone."
