Big news has come for cricket fans regarding Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia has said that the schedule for the first 20 days of the tournament will be released within the next two to three days. He said that the schedule is being prepared keeping in mind the dates of assembly elections to be held in some states.
Let us tell you, during a conversation with the media, Devjit Saikia told that the entire schedule of IPL 2026 will not be released simultaneously. In the first phase, the schedule of matches for the first 20 days will be announced, while the schedule of the remaining matches will be released later. He said caution was being taken in finalizing the dates and venues of the matches due to the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Meanwhile, information regarding the inaugural match of IPL 2026 has also been revealed. Broadcaster Star Sports has confirmed that the IPL 2026 season will begin on March 28. This announcement was made before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final played between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Last season’s champion team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take the field this time as the defending champion. RCB won the title for the first time by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final match of IPL 2025. Now the team is preparing to defend its title in IPL 2026.
Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary Santosh Menon has also given important information regarding IPL 2026. He informed that M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host five home matches of RCB this season. Apart from this, the final of IPL 2026 and a play-off match will also be played on this ground.
However, all the home matches of RCB will not be held in Bengaluru. The team’s two home matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
In fact, after a tragic incident at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in June last year, cricket activities were banned here. There was a stampede outside the stadium during RCB’s celebration after winning the IPL 2025 title, in which 11 people were killed and many were injured. After this incident, a temporary ban was imposed on international and domestic cricket matches here due to security reasons.
For this reason, this stadium did not even host the matches of the ICC Women’s World Cup and the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup. This ban also affected domestic and franchise based cricket tournaments. Now cricket is going to return to this historic ground through IPL 2026, about which there is a lot of enthusiasm among cricket lovers.
