Memory to account for 43% of BOM
For low-end devices, memory is projected to account for about 43% of total BOM in Q1 2026.
Low-end phones (wholesale price under $200) are projected to see BOM costs rise by about 25% quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2026.
Meanwhile, mid-range and flagship phones are also getting more expensive, but not as sharply.
With rising costs and memory shortages, global smartphone shipments are expected to drop nearly 13% this year.
The average price of a phone could climb to $523, a 14% jump.
Some brands are pulling out of the ultra-budget market or delaying launches altogether, so finding a good cheap phone might get tougher in 2026.
