A Pune-based lawyer has lodged a complaint against Team India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya for disrespecting the national flag during the team’s celebration after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He urged the police to take action and register an FIR.
Wajid Khan submitted his complaint at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station. According to him, Hardik had wrapped India’s national flag around himself while enjoying the victory with his girlfriend Mahieka Sharma after the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Hardik Pandya was celebrating with his girlfriend. He tied the national flag to his back. According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, it is important to respect the tri-colour. However, Hardik was lying with his girlfriend wearing the national flag. It is an insult to the flag,” he told ANI.
“I have submitted my complaint to the Shivaji Nagar police station. They were reluctant, but I told them that it is about the national flag, and we can file a complaint. They have accepted it, and let’s see what happens,” he added.
Hardik and his girlfriend were seen dancing and posing with the trophy. One of the videos showed the couple lying together while players and the members of the support staff celebrated around them.
