Bhubaneswar residents are facing a growing fuel crisis as LPG gas cylinders remain unavailable. Families, caterers, and restaurants have turned to firewood as an alternative, creating heavy demand across the city.
Crowds thronged firewood godowns in Old Bhubaneswar, where prices have skyrocketed. Chira wood now sells at Rs 1,700 per quintal, with traders warning that rates may rise further. The shortage has forced households and catering services to rely on traditional wood stoves, especially during weddings, rituals, and large gatherings.
Local suppliers reported that the sudden surge in demand has strained supplies. Many godowns are struggling to meet orders, while customers queue up to secure stocks. Residents expressed frustration, noting that the absence of LPG has disrupted daily life and increased expenses.
The crisis has hit urban families hardest, as they depend heavily on LPG for cooking. With no clarity on when supplies will normalise, people are scrambling for alternatives. Caterers admitted that they have shifted entirely to firewood to keep services running.
Officials acknowledged that the ongoing war situation has disrupted fuel distribution. Traders said that until supplies stabilise, firewood will remain the primary option for households and businesses.
