Sambalpur: A woman, who allegedly killed her two minor daughters by throwing them into a well at Sargidihi village under Mahulapali police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, was found hanging in another village on Saturday morning.
The accused mother has been identified as Sanju Madiki.
According to sources, Sanju left her home on Friday afternoon accompanied by her two young daughters, one around 6 years old and the other around 4 months old. She took them to a nearby farmland and allegedly threw both children into a well before returning home alone.
The incident came to light when her husband, James Madiki, noticed the children were missing and inquired about them. Unable to locate them, he and several local villagers rushed to the farmland, found the girls in the well, and pulled them out. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared both sisters dead on arrival.
Even as the police launched a probe to piece together the sequence of events leading to the incident with villagers claiming that the woman was suffering from some mental ailments, she was found hanging near a nullah in another village.
Police suspect that she died by suicide.
