Chitradurga: Three police officers died and two others were seriously injured in a road accident near Heggare Gate close to Challakere in Chitradurga district.
The deceased were identified as Reserve Sub-Inspectors Manjunath (32), Amaresh, and Sachin. All of them were reserve police officers from Bengaluru.
Two injured persons, Mahanthesh and Eshwar, have been admitted to Basaveshwara Hospital for treatment.
The incident took place early Sunday morning within the limits of Aimangala Police Station.
District Superintendent of Police Ranjit Kumar Bandaru visited the accident site and inspected the area.
Police said the five officers were travelling in a car from Bengaluru to Ballari to attend a wedding when the accident occurred.
According to officials, the car hit a lorry from behind. The lorry driver has been taken into custody and is being questioned in connection with the incident, police said.
