New Delhi:Atlee directed film ‘Jawaan’, released at the end of 2023, bombed at the box office and achieved a collection of more than Rs 1100 crore. In this film, Vijay Sethupathi played the role of villain Kali Gaikwad, which was highly appreciated by both the audience and critics. Recently, in an interview, Vijay revealed why he had said yes to ‘Jawaan’ and why he took up this challenging role.
Speaking to Variety India, Vijay Sethupathi said that his entry into this film happened only because of two special personalities. The first name was the film’s director Atlee, whose working style he liked very much. Vijay explains that Atlee knows how to give height to a scene or shot and make it interesting for the audience. She has complete confidence in her scenes, and this is her working style which attracts Vijay a lot.
The second reason was the opportunity to share the screen with Shahrukh Khan himself. Vijay Sethupathi said that working with Shahrukh sir was a big inspiration for him. He told openly, ‘Then obviously, it was about Shahrukh sir also, so I did this film only for him.’ Thus, only these two important reasons motivated him to sign the film without any delay.
Vijay’s character in the film was dangerous and powerful. She played the role of Kali Gaikwad brilliantly and shared important scenes with stars like Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone. His villain style and screen presence increased the tension and thrill in the film. Vijay received much praise for this role and the audience accepted him as a brilliant villain.
Shahrukh Khan’s performance in ‘Jawaan’ was also memorable. Shahrukh’s return after a long break made waves at the box office and he also received the National Award for this film, which was the first award in his decades-long career. A unique combination of South and North was seen in the film, which gave this project a distinct identity in the Indian film industry.
According to Vijay Sethupathi, working with Atlee and Shahrukh was a memorable experience for his career.
