Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has suggested his preferred combination of four overseas players for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026. He suggested that MI may need to make a choice between Sherfane Rutherford and Will Jacks as the fourth foreign player, depending on match conditions.

Mumbai Indians retained Will Jacks ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and acquired Sherfane Rutherford from Gujarat Titans for INR 2.60 crore.

Harbhajan predicted that MI’s overseas combination could include Quinton de Kock or Ryan Rickelton, Trent Boult, Allah Ghazanfar, and either Rutherford or Jacks. On spin-friendly pitches, he expects Jacks to get the nod over Rutherford.

“To begin with, either Quinton de Kock or Ryan Rickelton is expected to feature in the playing XI. Moving on to the bowlers, Trent Boult will obviously be included, and Allah Ghazanfar is another player who is certain to make the squad,” the former MI spinner said.

“Another player could be either Sherfane Rutherford or Will Jacks. If I were part of the management, I would lean towards playing Rutherford, depending on the conditions. For example, on Chennai’s pitches, I’d prefer Will Jacks, as he can contribute with a few overs,” he added.

The other two overseas members in MI’s 25-player IPL 2026 squad are Corbin Bosch and Mitchell Santner. They could serve as backup options for Boult and Ghazanfar, respectively, if they are not included in the first-choice XI.
