What is jail really like for celebs who get arrested? Food to strip searches

Despite leading glamorous lifestyles from private jets, to red carpets and luxury homes sometimes our favourite celebrities fall foul of the law. While being locked in a cell would be a traumatic experience for anyone, have you ever wondered what prison is really like for the A-listers, who have had a run in with law?

Celebrities commit the same crimes as regular people, but when they get punished for their wrongdoings, it usually includes gentler sentencing. Express.co.uk takes an inside look at some of the stars who have ended up behind bars whether for the short-term or the long haul.

Billionaire heiress Paris Hilton was thrown in jail for violating her probation from a 2006 DUI arrest. In 2007, Paris checked herself into the Century Regional Detention Facility. Just two days later, the LA County Sheriff reassigned her to 40 days of home confinement and an electronic tag because of an unspecified medical condition.

However, she was sent back to jail to serve her original sentence of 45 days. Her mysterious condition reportedly landed her in solitary confinement in the medical wing where she received regular visits from her lawyer and psychiatrist. Criminal Justice.com also reported Paris never had a routine cavity search other prisoners have to go through.

The late entertainer Rolf Harris was jailed in 2014 after being convicted of indecent assaults on four children and young women.

In jail, while in his mid-80s, Harris was seen as "at risk". The disgraced presenter served part of his sentence at at HMP Bullingdon, but was kept in a special wing for "vulnerable inmates". After being transferred to HMP Stafford, Harris very quickly got put on gardening duties.

Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating her terms of probation in 2010. She was also ordered to check into an inpatient rehab programme after her release from jail and later revealed she was strip searched.

The Mean Girls actress ended up completing a 14-day stint behind bars but was able to receive preferential treatment.

She was reportedly allowed to order food from a special store and could have specific items delivered to the jail that weren't readily available. The Hollywood star also had regular visitors.

The late OJ Simpson served nine years at Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada for armed robbery. But while inside, Simpson primarily worked as a gymnasium janitor, coached inmate softball teams, played fantasy football, and was considered a model inmate.

The former football star got to enjoy watching television in his cell, but he reportedly complained about not having HBO. According to reports, he also played checkers and cards with his fellow inmates.

The New Orleans rapper was sentenced to one year in prison for his 2007 gun charges back in 2010. But before his time in prison had begun his sentencing was pushed back a month because of dental surgery.

Once admitted to Rikers Island, he was kept separate from other prisoners. He had his own cell with a window facing outside. Lil Wayne cooked, watched television, became an Uno champion, and described his eight months behind bars as "not that difficult."

In 2004, Martha Stewart served five months at Federal Prison Camp, Alderson in West Virginia, for conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding and making false statements to federal investigators.

When she was not scrubbing the prison floors the domestic goddess spent her time exercising by walking around the prison grounds and attended nightly yoga sessions.
