Fire near Dubai airport after drone strikes fuel tanker; Flights temporarily suspended

A drone strike hit a fuel tanker near the Dubai International Airport early Sunday and sparked a fire, the Dubai Media Office said.

 

The fire was eventually "contained" with no injuries reported, the media office said on X.

 

"A drone incident in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (DXB) affected one of the fuel tanks," the statement said.

 

Gulf Arab states have faced a barrage of of Iranian missile and drone attacks since US-Israeli attacks on Iran prompted the ongoing conflict.

 

Iran says it is targeting US facilities and assets, but critical Gulf oil infrastructure, ports, airports, hotels and other civilian facilities have also been hit. 

 

Flights temporarily suspended at Dubai International Airport
 

Flights at the Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended early on Monday, the Dubai Media Office reported, after a drone hit a fuel tanker near the airport.

 

The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority said the suspension of flights was" a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff."

 

"Travellers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights," the Dubai Media Office said.

 

Dubai police said traffic on Airport Road and the Airport tunnel was temporarily closed, advising drivers to use alternative routes.

 

Authorities in the Emirati city said the fire from the drone strike was "under control." Dubai Civil Defense reiterated that the fire had not spread or caused injuries, and that the situation was brought under control.
