Bangladesh start series with commanding win

The opening ODI turned into a nightmare for Pakistan’s top order. Their batters struggled against Bangladesh’s bowling attack and never managed to build partnerships.

Pakistan’s highest scorer came from an unexpected spot in the batting order. No. 8 batter Faheem Ashraf made 37 runs, while opener Sahibzada Farhan added 27. Senior players Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha together contributed only 15 runs.

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana led the charge with a stunning five-wicket haul that dismantled Pakistan’s innings. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz also chipped in with three wickets to keep the visitors under constant pressure.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim leads the chase

Bangladesh had little trouble chasing the modest target. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim played a confident knock, scoring an unbeaten 67 to guide his team home.

The hosts completed the chase in under 16 overs, losing only two wickets and winning by eight wickets.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi admitted the team failed to get the start they wanted but believes there is still time to turn things around in the remaining matches.

“I think we started well when Nahid Rana comes. So I think he bowled really well. And yeah, the start we wanted, that was not achieved for the first game, but there’s still two games and as a team we’re ready for that,” Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi said after the defeat.

“I think just a small reminder for the team, I think just partnership build and in one-day cricket you need partnership, bowling and batting both ways. But yeah, there’s two games and we focus on other game as well.”
