The sequel to the 2025 blockbuster Dhurandhar has already become a major talking point among fans online. One of the biggest questions being discussed right now is whether Akshaye Khanna will return as Rahman Dakait, even though the character died in the first film.

Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, the film continues the spy-action story that began in the original movie. While the trailer has revealed several hints about the next chapter of the story, it has also sparked speculation about Khanna’s possible appearance.

What happened to Rahman Dakait in the first film

In the original Dhurandhar, Akshaye Khanna played Rahman Dakait, a powerful Baloch gang leader who stood as one of the main antagonists in the story.

The climax showed Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza Ali Mazari — who is eventually revealed to be Indian spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi — carrying out a carefully planned operation to eliminate Rahman. With the help of SP Aslam Chaudhry, played by Sanjay Dutt, Hamza orchestrates a police encounter that ends with Rahman Dakait’s death.

During the sequence, Hamza also manages to create the impression that he tried to save Rahman during the encounter. This move helps him strengthen his position within the criminal network while keeping his real identity hidden.

By the end of the film, Rahman’s death creates a shift in the power balance in Lyari, and Hamza begins consolidating influence in the region.

Why Akshaye Khanna could still appear in the sequel

Since Rahman Dakait’s death was clearly shown in the first film, it seems unlikely that the character would appear in present-day scenes in the sequel. However, fans believe there is still a way Akshaye Khanna could return.

Many promotional posts related to Dhurandhar 2 on social media have tagged the actor’s official Instagram account. This detail has led some viewers to think that Rahman Dakait may appear in flashback sequences.

Because the sequel is expected to explore events from the past, these flashbacks could show more about the gang’s internal power dynamics or the early stages of Hamza’s infiltration into the criminal network. As of now, the makers have not officially confirmed whether Khanna will appear in such scenes.

Trailer hints at deeper story around Hamza

The recently released trailer focuses strongly on Ranveer Singh’s character. He is shown again in his dual identities as Jaskirat Singh Rangi and Hamza Ali Mazari.

The story appears set to explore how Jaskirat transformed into Hamza while working undercover inside Pakistan. The trailer also hints that several unanswered questions from the first film may finally be addressed.

Among the mysteries fans are discussing online are the identity of Sher-e-Baloch and the next stage of the covert operation known as Mission Dhurandhar.

Other characters and new conflicts

The sequel is also expected to expand the role of intelligence officer Ajay Sanyal, played by R. Madhavan. Reports suggest that parts of the film may show him training Jaskirat in espionage techniques and combat skills.

At the same time, Rahman Dakait’s death has created a power vacuum in Lyari, which could lead to fresh conflicts. New factions may attempt to take control, and figures like Uzair Baloch could emerge in the struggle for dominance.

There is also speculation about whether characters such as Major Iqbal and SP Aslam Chaudhry will begin suspecting Hamza’s true identity, while another big question is whether Yaalina Jamali will eventually learn the truth about his mission.
