Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with devotion and joy across coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru/Udupi: Muslims across the coastal districts celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with devotion and festivity on Friday, marking the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal after the completion of Ramadan fasting.

In Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada District Qazi Alhaj Thwaha Ahmed Musliyar delivered the Eid sermon at Bavutagudde Eidgah Mosque. The Eid prayers were led by Khateeb Syed Shamsuddin Basith Ba Alavi Thangal Al Ansari of Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid.

President of Bunder Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Juma Masjid, Alhaj Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Vice President K. Ashraf and Treasurer S.M. Rasheed Haji were present.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, Legislative Council member Ivan D’Souza and Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy visited the venue and extended greetings.

After the prayers, U.T. Khader said that mutual love, trust and brotherhood can help build a harmonious society, a progressive Karnataka and a strong India. He added that special prayers were offered for peace and stability as the world is witnessing unrest.

Ivan D’Souza said that festivals help in building society and expressed hope that peace and harmony would increase through the celebrations.

At Ullal Central Juma Masjid, Eid prayers and sermon were held under the leadership of Khateeb Hafiz Abdul Majeed Fazili Hikami Sakafi. Ullal Dargah President B.J. Haneef Haji was present.

Across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, special congregational prayers, Eid sermons, greetings and visits to relatives and neighbours marked the celebrations. People also visited burial grounds after prayers to offer prayers for deceased family members. Greetings were exchanged through handshakes and embraces, followed by special meals at homes and visits to relatives.

Eid celebrations across Udupi district

In Udupi district, Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with enthusiasm across all taluks including Udupi town, Kapu, Brahmavara, Kundapur, Byndoor, Hebri and Karkala.

Special Eid prayers were held in mosques across the district. Devotees offered Fitr Zakat to the needy in the morning, wore new clothes and gathered at mosques for prayers. In some mosques, separate arrangements were made for women to offer prayers.

At Udupi Jamia Masjid, prayers were led by Maulana Abdur Rashid Nadwi, while at Udupi Anjuman Masjid, Maulana Inayathullah Razvi led the prayers. President of Udupi District Muslim Federation, Mohammed Moula, conveyed Eid greetings.

At Mooleuru Juma Masjid, the central mosque of the Udupi District Joint Jamaat, special Eid prayers and sermon were conducted under the leadership of Khateeb Hafiz Mohammed Ashraf Sakafi. Coastal Development Board Chairman M.A. Gaffoor and others were present.

In Kundapur, an Eid procession began from the Juma Masjid in the morning and concluded with special prayers at the Eidgah grounds. Imam Obaidur Rahman Nadwi of Hashimi Masjid at Brahmagiri Nayarkere led the prayers.

In view of the festival, tight police security was deployed at most mosques across the district as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents.
