Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a major steel manufacturing facility in Ludhiana, marking a significant development in the state’s industrial sector. The plant, set up by Tata Steel, has been established with an investment of approximately ₹3,200 crore and is described as one of the company’s largest facilities in the country. The newly inaugurated unit is based on Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, which is widely regarded as a more sustainable alternative to traditional steelmaking processes.
The facility is designed to use green energy sources, aligning with broader efforts within the manufacturing sector to reduce carbon emissions and adopt cleaner production methods. According to officials, the plant is expected to contribute to employment generation in the region. Estimates suggest that it could directly support around 2,600 to 2,700 jobs, while also creating indirect employment opportunities for several thousand people through ancillary industries and services linked to the project.
