Indian government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is introducing a new feature, which can significantly improve call transparency and user security. The company is working on launching a service called CNAP (Caller Name Presentation). With this service, users will be able to see the name of the caller – even if their number is not saved in their contacts, let’s know the complete details.

BSNL will start CNAP service

BSNL has already implemented CNAP solution and is currently in the integration phase.

This integration is being done zone-wise, which means it may take some time to be fully implemented.

Once the integration is complete, it is expected to be fully operational in the next 3 to 4 months.

Private telecom operators are already ahead

Big telecom companies like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have already started this feature for their users.

BSNL is now matching them by bringing the same facility on its network.

What is CNAP and how does it work?

CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) shows the caller name directly on your screen during incoming calls.

Unlike apps like Truecaller, which rely on crowdsourced data, CNAP pulls information directly from official telecom records.

The name displayed is based on the KYC (Know Your Customer) details submitted while purchasing the SIM card.

Why is CNAP important?

This service is expected to provide more accurate caller identification than third-party apps.

This will enable users to instantly identify unknown callers, reducing confusion and risk.

CNAP is being launched to tackle the increasing number of spam calls and online scams.

Due to increasing cases of fraud, including scams like “digital arrest”, users have suffered financial losses.
