Alan Titchmarsh has one final piece of garden advice for this month that gardeners can easily do at home. Spring is finally here, and many gardeners are getting back into their outside spaces.

Flowers are starting to bloom, and better weather is on the horizon. It is time to tidy up gardens and prepare for the spring and summer months ahead. Expert Alan has shared his secret to a "stunning" garden this spring, and it includes a task to complete before the end of March.

He said: "My final task for March is to get a bit of instant colour by planting up a spring planter." Alan explained that a spring planter is easy to create at home.

He suggests using softwood planters, which he says are easy to order and "fairly simple" to assemble with a drill.

"When it comes to plants, you can usually start picking up early stock from the garden centre as the month goes on," Alan said, according to The Mirror.

The television expert recommended selecting plants such as Erysimum, Campanula and Tiarella. He added: "I like to combine them with trailing ivy down the front, carex and alpines like Saxifrages to create a striking early spring display."

Alan urged: "Give yourself a bit of instant pleasure with a spring planter." The presenter explained it is one of the "simplest ways to bring instant life and colour into a garden just as the season begins to shift".

His Gardening With Alan Titchmarsh guidance stated: "The key lies in combining early-flowering plants like Erysimum and Campanula with reliable structure from evergreen textures such as carex, while trailing ivy softens the edges and adds movement.

"Alpines like Saxifrages introduce delicate detail and thrive in well-drained conditions, making them ideal for layered arrangements.

"With the right balance of height, texture, and colour, a spring planter not only delivers immediate visual impact but also creates a focal point that evolves as the season progresses."

Alan also encouraged gardeners to ensure they dedicate some time during March's final days to appreciate their gardens as they are.

"The soil is beginning to warm up, the shoots are coming and proving to us all it's been such a long wait, but spring is just around the corner."
