Lidl shoppers can make an Easter roast dinner for £1.56 per person after the retailer announced major discounts today. The supermarket has slashed prices on vegetables to as low as 4p, so a family of eight can tuck into a roast leg of lamb with trimmings for a total of £12.49.

The discount will run right over the holiday period, starting today, March 30, and lasting until Saturday, April 4. Lidl's Easter roast deal includes carrots, parsnips, swede, potatoes, mint sauce, gravy and of course, a whole leg of New Zealand lamb. Bags of carrots have been slashed from 69p to just 4p, the same price as parsnips and a whole swede.

A 2kg bag of white potatoes will cost double the price at 8p, and shoppers can pick up Newgate Gravy for 99p. The 1.8kg leg of lamb will cost £10.71, while Batts Mint Sauce is retailing for 59p. Shoppers will be limited to purchasing three bags of the discounted veggies each, as noted on Lidl's website.

Lidl confirmed it works on long-term agreements with producers and growers to ensure that promotional prices do not affect the price paid to farmers.

Other supermarkets have also slashed prices for Easter. Morrisonshas reduced prices across its British seasonal vegetable range, offering carrots, parsnips and swede for 4p each. This offer will last until Sunday, April 5.

Tesco is offering Clubcard members savings on seven essential veg products from Tuesday, March 31. Carrots, parsnips, broccoli, and white cabbage are among the favourites being sold for 15p until Monday, April 6.

Never one to miss out on a discount, Aldi has also cut prices on certain vegetables. Aldi said shoppers will be able to "pick up all of their Easter veg for less than 50p".

White potatoes, carrots, garlic and onions have been slashed to 4p.

Sainsbury's is offering 15p veg to shoppers with a Nectar membership. The discounts will launch on Wednesday, April 1, and continue until Sunday, April 5.
