A Chinese four-wheel-drive has become the best-selling car in the UK, with thousands of motorists switching to the vehicle. The Jaecoo 7 topped the list of brand new cars in March, with a staggering 10,064 sales, according to new data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Jaecoo delivered over 1,000 more models than their nearest rival, with Ford's Puma model in second on 9,183 sales. It's the first time that the Jaecoo 7 has hit the top of the monthly chart, and the Chinese marque is now closing on the overall annual tally. Data shows 15,569 Jaecoo 7 models have been sold so far in 2026, less than 600 below the 16,128 Ford Puma models.

Gary Lan, CEO of Jaecoo UK stressed that securing the achievement, just over a year since the model entered the British market, was a "landmark moment".

He said: "Securing the number one position is a landmark moment for Jaecoo. The Jaecoo 7 has resonated strongly with British customers thanks to its combination of advanced technology, standout design and real-world usability, particularly with our Super Hybrid System.

"This result reflects not only the strength of the product, but also the commitment of our growing UK retail network and the confidence customers are placing in our brand."

The Jaecoo 7 has enjoyed strong demand across both private and fleet channels, with the model dubbed the 'Temu Range Rover' by some families. It's down to the model's supposed similarities to the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar, as well as its budget price.

Motorists can get their hands on the Jaecoo 7 for just £29,105 OTR, rising to £35,175 OTR for the pricier SHS-P model. In comparison, a brand new Range Rover Evoque is likely to set road users back between £45,000 and £50,000.

Gary Lan added: "While we are relatively new to the market, our global Chery Group manufacturing base and extensive experience in vehicle exports have enabled us to adapt quickly to UK market needs and grow sustainably here [in the UK]."

Jaecoo is not resting on its success, with a sequel model set to be released in a matter of months. The Jaecoo 8 will be sold in both Executive six-seat and Luxury seven-seat configurations and will hit the UK market in May.
