Anthropic has announced its latest artificial intelligence model, named Claude Mythos Preview. This new model is the company's most advanced to date, surpassing even its predecessor—the Claude Opus 4.6—as well as competitor models like Gemini 3.1 across various benchmarks. Claude Mythos Preview is so powerful that Anthropic is not yet ready to release it to the public; the reason for this is cybersecurity. According to claims led by Dario Amodei, Claude Mythos is potent enough to detect thousands of cybersecurity vulnerabilities within applications and operating systems—flaws that often go unnoticed by humans.
**Collaboration Underway with Over 40 Tech Companies**
Before its public rollout, Anthropic announced that it is collaborating with more than 40 technology companies to utilize Mythos and remediate these vulnerabilities. In a blog post, the AI startup stated that Claude Mythos Preview can identify thousands of "zero-day vulnerabilities" (flaws) within web browsers and operating systems—issues that could pose significant cybersecurity risks. Zero-day vulnerabilities refer to flaws that software developers have not previously identified.

Among the discoveries was a 27-year-old vulnerability found in OpenBSD. This is an open-source operating system renowned for its security-first approach and is frequently deployed in firewalls and servers. Claude Mythos Preview also uncovered several vulnerabilities within the Linux kernel—the core component used to power the vast majority of servers worldwide. Anthropic asserted that, due to these flaws, an attacker could potentially gain complete control over a machine. Notably, Claude Mythos first came to light following a data leak within Anthropic's Content Management System (CMS). The company confirmed at the time that this would be the most powerful AI model to date.
