Kolkata: As Bengal enters the last leg of its campaigning for the first phase of polls next week, Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has cranked up the campaign pitch by holding a virtual meeting instructing party cadres -- from booth-level to candidate-level -- to intensify their door-to-door reach-outs, even if it means knocking on doors of CPI-M, Congress and even BJP supporters.

At the virtual meet which was attended by over-30,000 party workers across the state, Abhishek instructed them to explain the benefits of the social welfare schemes and all other development works done by the Trinamool government to people at the brass tacks. "We have been told to go to the homes of even BJP, CPI-M and Congress workers, and raise the campaign pitch," a Trinamool leader told ET.
Banerjee sought to reassure party workers that Trinamool's electoral prospects were bright and that the party would return to power with a stronger mandate. He also inspired workers to work harder and perform better that the previous polls. Party workers have been alerted about EVMs, to stay alert during mock polls and ask for EVM change in case they identify any snags, people in the know said.
Banerjee asked party workers to report any alleged intimidation by central forces, activating party control rooms from early morning on polling day, and staying alert on polling day and prevent any irregularities.
Campaigning in Bengal has reached a fever pitch with both Trinamool and BJP scaling up efforts across the state. PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, central ministers and chief ministers of various BJP-ruled states are making a beeline to Bengal and holding election rallies.
