8th pay commission
The stir regarding the 8th Pay Commission has intensified, where the expectations of central employees and pensioners are at their peak. National Council (JCM) and employee organizations have put forward many big demands before the government, which include salary increase, change in fitment factor, increase in allowance and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). These proposals can have a direct impact on the economic condition of millions of employees and pensioners of the country.
Demand to increase salary
The biggest demand has come forward regarding minimum wage. At present, it has been proposed to increase the basic salary of Rs 18,000 to Rs 69,000. Along with this, a demand has been made to implement 3.83 times fitment factor, which can lead to a big jump in the total salary of the employees. In this proposal, the needs of the family, inflation and expenses of modern lifestyle have been kept in mind.
Demand for increment
Employees have also demanded changes regarding increment and promotion. At present 3% annual increment is given, which has been suggested to be increased to 6%. Apart from this, a demand has been made to ensure at least five promotions in a career of 30 years and to give two additional increments on every promotion.
They are making demands on allowances and holidays
There are preparations for major changes in allowances and holidays also. Employees have demanded three times increase in HRA, CEA and other allowances and linking them with Dearness Allowance (DA). Besides, it has been suggested to add new provisions like menstrual leave, paternity leave and parent care leave. It has also been said that the limit of leave encashment will be increased to 600 days.
Employees' demand on pension
The attitude of the employees regarding pension is quite clear. He has demanded the abolition of National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Apart from this, demand has also been raised to implement One Rank One Pension for pensioners and to restore commuted pension after 11 years. If the government takes a positive decision on these demands, it can prove to be a big relief for lakhs of employees and pensioners. However, the final decision will depend on the recommendations of the government and the commission.
