IMD Rain Alert: Warning of thunderstorm, hailstorm and heavy rain in 15 states including North India

New Delhi, May 5. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has today issued an orange and yellow alert of thunderstorm, hailstorm and heavy rain in 15 states of the country on May 5, 2026. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, the areas suffering from extreme heat are going to get some relief, but there is also a danger of strong winds, lightning and hailstorm. The wind speed in the plains can reach up to 70 kilometers per hour.

Delhi-NCR

It will be cloudy today in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram including the capital Delhi. There is a possibility of light rain. The maximum temperature is expected to be 32°C and minimum 23°C. Tomorrow on May 6 the temperature may rise to 37°C, but it will remain partly cloudy with lightning.

Uttar Pradesh

The weather is going to be very bad in many districts of UP today. Strong winds with a speed of 50 km/hour may occur in many areas including Meerut, Aligarh, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Jaunpur. There will be respite from the humid heat as the maximum temperature in Lucknow will be around 30°C.

Bihar and Jharkhand

There is a possibility of thunderstorm (lightning) with moderate rain in Patna, Gaya, Araria, Bhagalpur. There will be strong winds of 40-50 km/hour in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Giridih. The maximum temperature of Ranchi will be around 29°C.

hill state

The weather is going to be worst in the mountains. Orange alert issued in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh. Snowfall continues in Kedarnath, due to which pilgrims may face problems. Heavy rain warning in Shimla, Manali, Kullu. The minimum temperature in Manali can drop to -2°C.

Rajasthan and Punjab

Due to the effect of western disturbance, there is a possibility of strong storm and rain in Jaipur and Bikaner divisions. Yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot and Mohali. Here the storm can blow at a speed of up to 60 km/hour. Farmers have been advised to keep the harvested crops safe.

Madhya Pradesh

There is a danger of lightning and hail in many districts including Bhopal, Vidisha, Sagar. Strong winds of 60 km/hr can cause damage in Sidhi and Singrauli.
