Official Liquidation: Ecojet Airlines has officially collapsed into liquidation after a failed attempt to raise £20 million in funding. Despite its ambitious goals, the Scottish-based start-up was forced to wind up its operations following a petition to the Edinburgh Sheriff Court, leading to the appointment of Paul Dounis and Mark Harper as joint liquidators.

Flights Grounded: As a direct result of the liquidation, all planned flights have been grounded and the schedule cancelled. The airline had intended to launch its first route between Edinburgh and Southampton in early 2024, with further plans for European expansion, but these services never managed to take off before the firm's demise.

Electric Ambitions: Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur and green energy tycoon Dale Vince, Ecojet aimed to be the world's first electric airline. The revolutionary plan involved retrofitting conventional aircraft with hydrogen-electric powertrains to achieve a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions, saving an estimated 90,000 tonnes of carbon annually.

Investment Paused: Owner Dale Vince confirmed he has paused investment into the project due to delays in aligning technology and regulatory requirements. While he remains committed to the net-zero frontier, stating that electrifying aviation is a matter of "when, not if," work has currently ceased as the start-up lacked material assets to continue.

Employee Support: To protect the workforce, the company's members have elected to fund the liquidation process. This funding is specifically intended to ensure that Ecojet's former employees receive their full statutory entitlements, as the business itself had no significant assets remaining at the time of its collapse into formal insolvency proceedings.
