Indian cricketer Sanju Samson delivered a memorable performance on Tuesday night against Delhi Capitals, guiding Chennai Super Kings to their fifth win of the season. Chasing a target of 156, the wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 87 runs off 52 balls, smashing 6 sixes and 7 fours in a controlled yet aggressive innings.

The highlight of the chase was his incredible partnership with Kartik Sharma. The duo stitched together 114 runs in just 66 balls, turning the game completely in CSK’s favour. This stand was not just crucial for the win but also historic in many ways.

It marked the fifth 100-run partnership for CSK against Delhi Capitals. What made Sanju Samson’s effort even more special was that he became the first batter ever to be part of two century-plus partnerships against Delhi in the same season. This unique achievement set him apart from others.

Interestingly, Ruturaj Gaikwad still holds the record for the most century partnerships against Delhi Capitals, three in total, but those came across different seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023). Sanju Samson, however, achieved his milestone within a single edition, making it even more remarkable.

After the match, Sanju Samson was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding innings. Speaking about his approach, he emphasised sticking to basics and trusting his natural game. He also mentioned working on his initial movement, which has helped improve his performance.

In a refreshing and honest moment, Sanju admitted that he chose the team’s victory over chasing a personal milestone. He felt finishing the game unbeaten brought him greater satisfaction.

With a few matches still left, Sanju Samson remains hopeful of reaching a three-figure score soon but for now, his focus clearly stays on winning games for the team.
