Prince Harry is said to have one "very important" priority when it comes to his role as a father to his two children. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, Prince Archie, on this day in 2019.

The royal became a father for the second time after the birth of Princess Lilibet in 2021. The couple made the decision to raise their children away from the restraints of the Firm, with Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four, being bought up in California.

With his own upbringing spent in front of the public, Harry is said to be keen on making sure his children are allowed to "grow their own identities".

A source told PEOPLE: "They give their kids space to be themselves - for their different personalities to flourish.

"After growing up so publicly, that was really important to Harry."

Harry recently spoke of his own childhood at an event in Australia, with the couple having spent four days Down Under for a faux-royal tour.

He said at an event hosted by Movember: "I see parenting evolving over time. Our kids are our upgrade. Not to say that I upgraded my dad or that my kids upgraded me, but the kids that we bring up in today's world need to be upgraded.

"There's no judgement, there's no blame. However you are parenting... you are going to want to improve on that."

To mark Archie's seventh birthday today, Meghan has shared two adorable snaps of their "sweet boy" on her Instagram account.

The first picture shows Meghan holding an adorable picture of a newborn Archie sleeping on Prince Harry's lap. The second snap is a picture of Archie with Princess Lilibet on a beach, likely near to their home in California.
